If you just need the USB, then there are cheaper/smaller options. I have one of those too, but the thunderbolt port is good for charging while your other ports are occupied.

So I called Apple suport. It turns out that the laptop supports 60hz, but this adapter DOES NOT. Apple does not make an adapter (type-c to hdmi) that supports 60hz. There are a few 3rd party adapters out there, but reviews on those are generally poor. I wrote this review to warn others. The adapter works just fine otherwise. 30hz video is just too laggy in my opinion.

The HDMI output says it supports up to 4K resolution, but I am unsure of this. It would have been nice to put a lighting bolt slot in here, however I would look forward to the OWC Macbook Docking Station, it isn't bus powered but if you want to have a solid workstation I would do it.

Displays flicker frequently and attached to TV you will have to reboot every few minutes, because constant flickering appears.

Brought it to apple care, they said it works fine. There are reports on this on apple forum, I installed the latest OSX beta and it improves a bit for the flickering, data connection is still unstable.not for professional use.

It would not work at the monitor's optimal 1080P setting; the monitor would just flash on and off every second or so, and even though it worked on the 720p setting, that made resolution too big for my main 24' monitor which uses the built-in display port. Fortunately the Samsung monitor also had a VGA input, so dug up an old cable and changed the adapter so it would work at the 1920 x 1080 optimal setting. So lots of screen real estate and no issues.
